Benjamin Franklin Johnston

Company A, 5th Michigan Cavalry

From Almont, Michigan, Benjamin enlisted August 16, 1862, at Bruce for 3 years at age 33. Mustered in on August 26, 1862. He was captured at Trevillion Station, Virginia, on June 11, 1864. Held at Andersonville Prison, later paroled, he survived the explosion of the Sultana and was discharged at Detroit on July 25, 1865. He was born March 23, 1829, Died on March 1, 1914, and is buried in Almont. He was married to Betsy Ann Worster.
