From Lebanon, Michigan, he enlisted as Corporal in Company B, 8th Infantry at Dallas, Michigan, on Aug. 11, 1862, at the age of 21. He served for the duration of the way in that capacity until his discharge at Philadelphia, PA, on June 9, 1865
