From Genesee County, Michigan, Phillip enlisted as a Corporal on October 2, 1861, at Vienna, Michigan, for 3 years service at the age of 19. He was discharged at the expiration of his term of service at Atlanta, Georgia, on October 31, 1864. His post war address was Watsonville, Michigan.
