William enlisted at Leonidas, Michigan, on October 5, 1863, for 3 years of service at the age of 30. He was discharged on a Surgeon Certificate of Disability at Washington, D.C., on Jun 2, 1865. This is a photo of he and his wife, Marilyn Catherine West. He died at St Paul, Arkansas, on August 25, 1918, and is buried at Brashears Cemetery in Combs, Arkansas.
