Company D, 5th Michigan Infantry

From Clayton, Michigan, Peter enlisted at Fort Wayne, Michigan, at the age of 22 for 3 years of service on August 8, 1861, and took the muster oath on August 28, 1861. He was wounded in action at Williamsburg, Virginia, on May 3, 1862. He re-enlisted on December 15, 1863, as a Sergeant at Brandy Station, Virginia. Promoted to 1st Sergeant before he was captured at Boydon Plank Road, Virginia, on October 27, 1864. He was returned to the Regiment on February 22, 1865. He was Commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant on October 10, 1864, reaching the rank of Captain on May 8, 1865. He mustered out at Jeffersonville, Indiana, on July 5, 1865. He died on October 30, 1891, and is buried at Flint, Michigan.
