Enlisted at Jonesville, Michigan, at age 25 mustering-in on August 22, 1861. Wounded at Gettysburg, July 3, 1863. He re-enlisted on December 16, 1863, and was promoted to Corporal, then wounded yet again at the Wilderness on May 6, 1864. He mustered-out at Jeffersonville, Indiana, on July 5, 1865. He died on September 30, 1878, from illness contracted while in the army in 1863, and was buried at Oakridge Cemetery in Catlin, Illinois.
