LUSK, WILHELMUS - Battle Creek Daily Moon, Saturday, August 30, 1890
AT REST
After a Lingering illness Dr. Lusk Passed Away.

The many friends of Dr. Lusk will be greatly pained to learn that the complication of diseases with which he has been suffering for so many weeks, took a fatal turn and caused death at about 12:00 today. A large majority of the citizens of Battle Creek were well acquainted with the deceased and have watched closely, hoping that some chance might be found for his life. A few days ago he began to mend slowly and a smile rippled over the clouds which hung so heavily over the unhappy household, but all were doomed to disappointment and sorrow, as in a few hours the loved one was stricken down and but few hopes remained. Last evening the doctor was taken worse, and for several hours did all in his power, but human aid was no avail. Deceased leaves a wife and daughter, Lillian May, eight years old, who will receive the sympathy and condolence of the entire community in their sad affliction.
Wilhelmus Lusk was born in Wayne County, N. Y., May 27, 1855. His father J. H. Lusk, owned a large farm at his birthplace, and on the younger Lusk passed his early days, attending school during the winter months. When Wilhelmus reached the age of 17 his parents moved west and settled on a farm three miles east from Battle Creek, where they now reside. Until he reached the age of twenty one years he remained on his father's farm taking advantage of the country schools as much as possible and when of age he began taking a course of studied at the Seventh Day Adventists College in the city.  Here he remained two years, at that time entered the office of Dr. Johnson. With determination to succeed he entered the Pulte Medical College at Cincinnati and took a two year courses, receiving a diploma and returning here. He at once opened an office in Edwardsburg, where he remained three years and established a good practice. While there he married Miss Lizzie Stewart of Harmonia, and they began housekeeping at once. At the expiration of three years he was obliged by failing health to dispose of his practice and he was compelled to go south. Accompanied by his family he visited Orlando, Florida, where he regained his health; and better circumstances being very favorable he established a practice there and remained three years, at which time he closed his business and returned to Battle Creek.
Dr. Johnson and Dr. Lusk formed a partnership and for eighteen months the did business together, when Dr. Lusk withdrew and located an office where he remained until his fatal sickness. He was a generous hearted citizen, very popular with all who were fortunate enough to form his acquaintance and has been very successful in the practice of member of the Knights of Pythias and that order will conduct the funeral services, which will occur tomorrow at 4 o'clock p.m., at the Congregational Church, Rev. W. D. Simonds officiating. The Knights will escort the remains from the residence on Main street to the church and from there to the last resting place.
Mrs. John Barham, sister of the deceased, has been telegraphed for and will probably arrive from Granger, Ind., tonight. Another sister, Mrs. S. Anderson, of Pennfield, was present at the time of his death.
