WHEELER: Uriah Born 1820 in NY. Wife Almira RAYMOND born in New York. According to the MI 1880 Census was living in Kalamazoo, Kalamazoo County, with 5 children; Minnie E. - born 1856; Raymond Lafayette - born 1861 Detroit, Wayne County, MI; Burton W. born 1865; Lillian E. - Born 1866 and Winnifred - born 1872. All five children were born in Michigan. His son Raymond Lafayette moved to MT, Alberta, and WA. I believe his son, Burton W. remained in Michigan. Burton had 4 children Gladys S.; Thurston - born 7/25/1898, died June 1868 in Gratiot County; Clifford born 10/4/1904, died 11/1978 in Warren, MI. and Vivian I born 1905.

OBITUARY - Aug 18, 1929 BUTTON, VETERAN PRINTER, EXPIRES Employed by Putt Company Here 28 years; Once with Newspaper Harry J. BUTTON, 64, a printer who has lived in Kalamazoo more than 50 years, died at his home 832 Elm Street, Sunday afternoon. He was born in New York City and came to Kalamazoo at the age of 21. He has been employed by the Putt Printing Company for 28 years was formerly with the Telegraph and the Kalamazoo Publishing Company. He was a member of the Modern Woodmen of America. Surviving are his widow, Kate; three daughters, Mrs. Roy K. GRABILL of Hammond, Ind., Mrs. W. E. POWELL of Downey, Calif., and Miss Katherine BUTTON of this city; and two grandchildren, Barbara GRABILL and Robert POWELL.

I would love to answer any queries. I found the article in my grandmother's birthday book. BUTTON-POWELL Written in pencil 1921 Kalamazoo Newspaper "The marriage of Miss Florence BUTTON, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harry J. BUTTON to Mr. Walter Grant POWELL, took place Friday, June 24, at Downey, Cal. The bride wore the wedding dress of the bridegroom's mother, which was white satin, creamy with age, and trimmed in clusters of waxed orange blossoms. The slippers, veil and gloves all belonged to the original costume. The bride is a graduate of Central High school, class 1917, and Eastern State Normal school, class 1920. The groom is a graduate of Pennsylvania State college, class 1916, and is a member of the Alpha Tau Omega University. After the ceremony, the wedding breakfast was served at the home of Mrs. A. C. Marker. The place cards were little "button-face" brides, the work of the bride. The out-of-town guests were: Mrs. Harry J. BUTTON of this city, Mr. and Mrs. E. C. POWELL of Ridgway, Pa. After a motoring trip to Yosemite Valley, Mr. and Mrs. Powell will be at home at Downey, Cal., at the new home which Mr. Powell has built for his bride.

DEMING, Elbridge Gerry; Vicksburg, Kalamazoo, MI; mid-1800s; I am trying to determine if this is the same Elbridge Gerry DEMING who was supposedly born 1800 in Sharon, VT. Officials there say there have never been any DEMINGs from Sharon. My wife is descended from that individual, however. Seems like too much of a coincidence for two individuals to have had the same very unusual name. This Elbridge Gerry DEMING supposedly was born in 1829 in Vermont, then lived in the Rochester, NY area for a time, finally settling in Vicksburg. Can anyone help? My G-G-Grandparents John GIBBS (1796-1881) and Miranda KINNE GIBBS (1805- 1871) were married 1824 in western NY state. They came to MI ca. 1832 and settled in Kalamazoo Township.
